Ponza is north of Naples. This archipelago consists of several islands, and only Ponza and Ventotene are inhabited. All the islands are of volcanic origin, it is in fact the last foothills of Mount Vesuvius. The sea, bays and beaches are breathtaking. The quiet town of Ponza with its narrow streets and stairs has many traditional, white, square block houses. These charming cottages are built in the same style as those on the islands of Ischia and Procida.
Around the island of Ponza are many caves, the Pilatus Caves very rewarding. These caves are located at the foot of the hill Madonna and you can only get with a boat. Pilatus Caves, which are partly under water, were once an overlying Roman villa, which was reached by a staircase chopped in the rocks. Here the Romans bred fish and five basins are still good zichtbaar.Het is possible to arrive by car, but in Ponza Porto you can not drive and there are very few parking spaces.
